The discovery of the Muruntau deposit was recognized by the international geological community as the greatest discovery in the field of precious metals in the second half of the twentieth century. Muruntau is the largest deposit located in the Central Kyzylkum, 180 km from the Navoi city and 40 km from Zarafshan city, at the southern foot of Tamdytau. Due to the abundance of gold reserves, the convenience of technological conditions for ore mining, the mine was recognized as the “miracle of the century”. The famous geologist, academician Ibrahim Khamroboev went down in history as the scientist who discovered the Muruntau deposit. In 1969, a group of geologists led by I. Khamroboev was awarded the state prize of the former Soviet Union for the discovery of the Muruntau deposit.
