Sustainable development principles were discussed at the workshop of BCG
On October 18, 2023, NMMC held a workshop in Navoi, supported by Boston Consulting Group, to address the topics of Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG).
'Implementation of ESG principles' is one of the six dimensions of the company’s Transformation Program, which is designed to enhance investment attractiveness of JSC "NMMC", advance sustainable development and transition to a “green” economy. The workshop was attended by members of the Management Board and key executives and moderated by BCG's global expert on ESG and sustainable development, Partner and Director at BCG Berlin, Konstantin Polunin.
The participants discussed global trends in sustainable development and their impact on mining companies, the importance of the ESG agenda for Uzbekistan, and best practice cases of major mining and metals companies in developing and implementing sustainability strategies. Resulting from the discussion, participants reconfirmed the goals and importance of ESG for the Company, agreed to enforce cross-functional collaboration to ensure progress in implementing ESG principles at NMMC.
“It is quite clear that we have to take a more active stand on ESG, think about tomorrow and be more proactive in meeting the challenges and ESG pressures of the future, not just react to events or formal requirements”, said Atabek Ravshanov, the Company's Chief Engineer.
“It is very important and valuable that we, as NMCC management, reached a better understanding of the importance of ESG agenda for NMCC, the global trends and practices in this area, and reinforced our commitment to work as a team in furthering that agenda”, said Eugene Antonov, 1st Deputy CEO for Transformation.
