On January 23-26, 2023, there are being held meetings of the management and specialists of Joint Stock Company Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company with representatives of the international consulting company SRK Consulting at the company’s Head Office.
The overall strategy for the development and implementation of the “Roadmap” to bring the activities of JSC NMMC into line with the Principles for Responsible Gold Mining of the World Gold Council and the International Cyanide Management Code will be discussed at the meetings.
It should be noted that SRK Consulting was appointed in October 2022 to audit the compliance of the production facilities of the company located in Uzbekistan with the Responsible Gold Mining Principles and the International Cyanide Management Code. The consulting company assembled a team of international and local experts to carry out the audit.
January 23 – on the first day of meetings between the management and specialists of JSC NMMC with representatives of SRK Consulting, an interim report on the first audit carried out to date was presented. The main purpose of this audit is to develop a roadmap to achieve compliance with the above international standards.
The audit found that key areas requiring attention in 2023 and 2024 include business principles, safety and health, cyanide management, water management, environmental and social impact assessment, impacts on local communities, prospective and ongoing engagement with the local population, biodiversity and adaptation to climate change.
Discussion of the overall strategy for the development and implementation of the “Roadmap” will continue until January 26.
